What are magic mushrooms?

Magic mushrooms, or Psilocybe mushrooms, are a type of psychoactive fungus that are beloved by many for their ability to take users on a unique experience called a trip. They are hallucinogens that contain the psychoactive ingredients psilocybin and psilocin, which can quickly alter your perception of how things feel, taste, smell, and look.

In Smartific Shroomshop, you can get ready-made Mushroom growing kits, ...spore syringes and buy ready-made truffles. All of these products are legal in the Netherlands.

What are psilocybin mushroom spores?

Psilocybin spores are the "seeds" of psilocybin mushrooms. Paddo spores can be used to inoculate your substrate (growth medium) of choice, so you can grow your own magic mushrooms at home.

Although they can be easily used by a beginner (with sufficient knowledge and resources), spores are more difficult to handle than mushroom growing kits. Therefore, we recommend that you start with a simple, already colonized version: a magic mushroom growing kit.

What are magic truffles?

Magic truffles (Also known as sclerotia, philosopher's stones, or Psilocybe truffles) are a psychoactive species of magic mushrooms, differing only in the way they grow. They contain similar amounts of psychoactive ingredients like psilocybin and silicin, but due to the fact that they are not consumed dry, the dosage differs, and you must choose the correct dosage based on the desired effects.

What are mushroom grow kits?

Magic mushroom grow kits are a ready-made solution for those who want to grow their own magic mushrooms in the comfort of their own home. Growing psychoactive magic mushrooms is simple and anyone can do it with the right basic knowledge.

The magic mushroom grow kit includes everything you need to start your own small magic mushroom colony, and you can grow multiple flushes in just a few weeks.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions: Psilocybin Mushrooms

The main difference between magic truffles (sclerotia) and magic mushrooms (Psilocybe) is the way they are grown. Magic mushrooms are the fruiting bodies that grow above the surface (consisting of a stem and a cap), and magic truffles are parts of the same organism that grow underground.

Short answer: yes. Mushrooms and Magic Truffles contain the same psychoactive ingredients (psilocin and psilocybin), so consuming these psychoactive ingredients in the same dose (measured by the dose of the psychoactive ingredients, not the weight of the mushroom/truffle) will produce the same effects.

The only difference is the dosage and the way magic mushrooms and truffles are usually grown/sold. Usually, magic mushrooms are sold dried, while truffles are sold fresh (therefore still containing extra weight due to humidity). You could say that 1 gram of dried magic mushrooms is equal to 8-10 grams of fresh truffles. This is by no means a completely accurate measure, as everything is much more complex than that (potency, quality, age, etc.), but it works in most cases.

So to summarize: if you plan to have the same experience as you would have with taking ~2 grams of dried magic mushrooms, then you need to consume ~20 grams of magic truffles to have comparable potency effects.

Always start slowly and keep your dosage to a minimum so you can learn how your body and mind react to the substance. The first psychedelic experience has a unique property: "the expectation effect." The expectation effect means that you will have the experience you expected. So if you expect to have a great spiritual experience, that's what will happen. If you expect to have a breathtaking time with your friends, that's exactly what will happen too.

It might sound strange, but any experienced psychonaut will tell you that's exactly the case. Your psychedelic experience always gives you exactly what you deserve. Therefore, no matter what kind of experience you want to have, you must always clearly define what kind of experience you are looking for, and your mind will ensure that you get exactly that.

This is probably the best advice for any beginner: make sure everything in your life is already good right now (psychedelics can be a great way to deal with your problems, but it's advisable to only use them as such after you've "learned to stumble") and choose a place and time that feels best for you. Not a place and time that feels good, but a place and time that feels perfect.

It is best to analyze your personal effects and feelings while experiencing those psychedelic effects for the first time naturally, but... Generally expect changes in your perspective, perception of reality, sound, colors, sight, feelings, time, and other possible senses you may have (or may not yet have). Psilocybin and psilocin are known for connecting parts of your brain that generally never "talk" to each other. Therefore, in larger doses, psychonauts can enter states such as "hearing color," "smelling sound," or "feeling one with the universe.".

Some dedicated psychonauts might even tell you that some of these new connections, in a subtle sense, last forever (in the sense that you remain more open-minded after your first psychedelic experience). This doesn't mean you'll smell colors after your trip is over; it means you'll see reality as more complex and your creativity/perspective will remain more open than ever before.

You can expect your magic truffle trip to last between 3 and 6 hours, but because your general sense of time changes while you're tripping, we recommend keeping the thought "I'm tripping until I fall asleep" in mind. After you've fallen asleep and woken up, your trip is definitely over.

This depends heavily on many factors such as your health, the time since your last psychedelic trip, body mass, desired effects, personal metabolism, sensitivity to different substances, and many other factors.

Overall, for a very mild trip with the full spectrum of psychedelic effects, you should take at least 10 grams of magic truffles. For a normal trip, you should take around 15 grams of magic truffles. For a full psychedelic experience, you should take 20-22 grams of magic truffles.

Psilocybin and psilocin will affect your mental state, along with other psychoactive ingredients found in magic truffles. In most cases, 15-20 grams of magic truffles will not make you hallucinate. That is, if we agree that hallucinations mean seeing things that are not there. However, you will experience mild distortions, also called visuals. This means objects will "breathe," straight lines will be slightly in motion, and similar visual irregularities can occur all around you.

In summary... If you take magic truffles in a dosage not exceeding 15-22 grams (full box):

Green dragons that follow you and try to talk to you? No, that won't happen.

Objects (that are physically there!) changing color, breathing, and dancing patterns? Yes, that will happen.

In higher dosages, it is possible to cause hallucinations, but in most cases, these hallucinations will happen with closed eyes (even with 15-22 grams of magic truffles). It is highly unlikely that you will see reality blending with your imagination. It is more likely that you will have visions in your head (closed eyes) and you will see visions (objects changing).

That depends on the dose, your mental state, your environment, and many other factors. The effects will be different every time you decide to take magic mushrooms. But a good place to start is knowing that magic mushrooms amplify your state.

What does that mean?

It means that under the influence of psychedelics, everything becomes more intense...

If you are happy, you will become super happy now. If you are sad, you will also become super sad. Don't be afraid of that, even crying or being sad on magic truffles feels strangely more comfortable than usual. Psychedelics tend to make everything feel more natural and you accept it as a part of who you are. If some emotions or feelings erupt from you during your trip, that's normal. That is your subconscious explaining things to you.

Magic truffles will tell you what you need to hear, and sometimes you don't necessarily want to hear it.

This is only because we are so good at lying to ourselves, but when we are under the influence of psychedelics, our subconscious takes more control and some things you simply cannot hide from your subconscious.

With all of that in mind, the most common effects of magic truffles are:

  • Change in perception (things feeling, smelling, sounding, looking, and seeming different)
  • Visuals (objects that distort, move, breathe, and change color)
  • Euphoria (bursts of laughter, happiness, joy)
  • Nonduality (feeling one with the world, love, and inner peace)
  • Confusion (mind-melting, disparate, non-linear thought patterns)
  • Warm bodily sensations (various physical sensations)
  • Intoxication (general feeling of "something taking over," nausea, sensitive stomach)
  • Emotional shifts (jumping from happy to sad and back to happy in a fraction of a second)
  • Relaxation (body melting away, muscle relaxation)
  • Creativity bursts (ideas that run through you like a cosmic train)
  • Philosophical outburst (understanding that flows through you and realizations that keep coming up)
  • Feelings of wonder (that's where the word trip comes from: you want to explore the feeling)
  • Distortion of time and space (concepts like money or time have no meaning)
  • All thoughts at once or no thoughts at all
  • Thirst or hunger (in a strange, moderate, and specific sense)
  • Reality Shifts (New Perspectives on the World and Changed State of Mind)
  • Other personal belongings based on internal/external factors

Please note: some of these effects may seem negative, while other effects seem positive. It’s more complicated than that: once you cross the boundary between good and bad, it disappears, making them all feel natural, like a part of yourself. That’s why experienced psychonauts always advise: do not focus on the "negative effects"; if you focus on the positive side, the trip will be positive.

You will always have the trip you want and intend to have, even if that decision was made unconsciously by you.

No.

There are four drug categories: depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens, and opiates. Even though weed can technically be categorized under those categories, with the exception of opiates... when comparing and analyzing cannabis and magic truffles (or magic mushrooms), weed would be considered a depressant (slows down your brain function, like alcohol) and psilocybin would be a strong hallucinogen (alters perception by changing how your nerve cells communicate with each other in your brain).

Magic truffle or mushroom effects are therefore not comparable to those of weed.

It doesn't matter if it's your first time or if you're a truly experienced psychonaut; for every trip, it's important to evaluate your setting and mindset. This means you need to assess both internal and external factors that could influence your trip.

Internal factors:

  • You feel healthy and rested
  • Your mood is good, you're looking forward to this experience...
  • You are not grieving and you do not have relationship problems.
  • You think everything in life is going great now

External factors

  • The place where you plan to trip makes you comfortable
  • People who are present during the trip will understand you and you will feel comfortable around them.
  • You don't have any specific plans that could affect your trip in the next 24-48 hours.
  • You have enough water and everything else you need for your trip.

After ensuring that both internal and external conditions are perfect, you can spend some time setting goals for your trip. Define your trip and everything you expect from it. Every psychedelic experience is different, and the best way to ensure you have the trip you want is by knowing exactly what kind of trip you plan to have.

From a physiological standpoint, ensure you do not eat for at least 4 hours before consuming your magic truffles. Glucose in your blood will interfere and reduce the trip effect. Furthermore, any food in your stomach can even make you sick, nauseous, or even vomit. Therefore, experienced psychonauts fast as much as possible before every psychedelic trip. It is also good to know that if something goes wrong and you want to end your trip early, sugar and high-calorie food combined with plenty of water will reduce the effects and make the trip disappear faster.

The trip sitter is a person who is not under the influence and serves as emotional and physical support for someone having a psychedelic experience.

If it's your first trip, it's good to know that having a trip sitter can make you more comfortable during the trip. This can help you to calm down if you start to freak out or don't like the experience. However, trip sitters are more common with very intense psychedelic experiences and so-called "hero doses" which usually contain more than 25-40 grams of magic truffles (or more than 3-4 grams of dried magic mushrooms), where the user can lose touch with reality. In those cases, we fully support the idea of a trip sitter.

But the real question should be: how much do I trust the trip sitter?

Unconscious and conscious.

Because under the influence of psychedelics, we tend to overreact and be very sensitive to everything, the trip sitter of our choice should be the most reassuring person we know. How much experience our trip sitter has with psychedelics comes second (it's better if the trip sitter understands how psychedelics work well). That's why your partner, best friend, or a family member could be your best choice.

With all that said, if you have a very strong mental connection with someone, it's a good idea to bring them on your trip. Avoid strangers at all costs and only choose people you are truly comfortable with. Even if the person has no experience with psychedelics, the high-quality mental connection is the best thing you can have on your first trip.

This is why experienced psychonauts advise that if you take 15-20 grams of magic truffles (or 1.5-2.5 grams of dried mushrooms), just bring along the person you are closest to and do it together. (as long as that person truly wants the experience; never force anyone to trip if they are not ready for it!) You will likely be better off if you are both tripping on the same level than with someone who is "sober" and trying to comfort you. This is because it can sometimes be difficult to communicate with someone who is not under the influence of psychedelics (some trip-sitters take only a microdose for this very mental reason).

Just put them in the refrigerator and you can store them until the expiration date printed on each truffle package.

Due to the fragile nature of truffles, we do not recommend freezing them. However, there are ways to dry the truffles, but do so at your own risk. This could enhance/reduce the potency of the Magic Truffles, and it could also make the experience better/harder on your stomach.
